It wasn’t even 15 years ago that no luxury cars were ramping on Toronto streets.

Job market, as well documented, is arranged in a way that wouldn’t allow newcomers in unless exploited in lowest possible positions so guys like you (maybe) climb the ladder faster.Īnd, no matter what, they have to pay taxes on what they make and once again on what they buy! No wonder why government is so fond of immigration!Īs for residents though, housing quadrupled meaning money directly in your pocket! Rental housing is ridiculously and inhumanly unaffordable which pushes newcomers to so called basements with no proper lighting and so… to make you some passive income! Yahyyy They are merely selected amongst the best in terms of knowledge and profession yet have to start (and more often than not stay) with entry level jobs. To enlighten you a little, immigrants have to show prove of income and savings and bring at least a year worth of all expenses for each family member upon arrival. If you’re so dumb and self righteous that you don’t know and understand that at least Canadian economy is rolling because of immigrants, then you’re probably Ford 2.0! Anonymous (who are afraid of introducing yourself even with a fake name!), your comment is so racist. There is a cost of living crisis and a homeless crisis that the politicians are refusing to act on quickly, except one Trump junior politician who is gaining popularity. The Canadian Dream has turned into a nightmare for the working class. Homelessness is rising in Toronto, even for those who have jobs. Some of my Gen Z friends feel like their deaths are getting closer because they are trapped in Toronto and can’t afford to leave. Don’t be fooled with the propertied class because they live a life of privilege, went to good schools and have connections to the good jobs. Right now it’s over $900 for a SHARED ROOM in Toronto. It’s despicable, scary and horrific.Ī job doesn’t guarantee shelter in Toronto.Īnd when you live in a tent, the propertied class send Toronto Police to kick down the tents and kick the homeless people like garbage. More and more persons are living in tents.

If that is a problem, feel free to leave. Oh and yes Brad, many of us are feminists.

All that said, for what it's worth, I found a home here (even though I will never be able to purchase a home here) and I know so many people who have felt the same. The city has major issues and there is major cognitive dissonance with everyone who can spend $18 on a cocktail and then complain about people without housing living in tents in parks. And yes, opportunity in this city is limited to certain sectors, educations, work experiences, citizenships, and a strong hit of nepotism/family assistance (if you bought any property in the last five years anywhere below Eglinton you either 1) had assistance with the down payment, 2) lived with family for cheap/no rent while working at Toronto wages, 3) cashed out on some kind of industry boom). Yes, the gap between the rich and poor is atrocious.

I also grew up on tippy toes to lower middle class and gay af in a city full of overt and covert bigots, so it wasn't all sunshine. I do have privilege, from race to education. In my Canadian hometown, I would have had to settle in every aspect (and I did for years) and never reach my potential.
